Here’s a complete list of all NYC weed dispensaries now open for business

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Since adult-use recreational weed became legal in the state of New York, four legal dispensaries have opened – two in New York City and two in upstate New York.

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act into law in March 2021, however, no dispensaries opened under Cuomo’s tenure; the first adult-use recreational dispensary opened under Gov. Kathy Hochul in December 2022.

New York state, through the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) and the Cannabis Control Board, set very specific requirements dictating who the first licenses would be awarded to.

The first licenses would be Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) licenses, only awarded to equity-entrepreneurs with a prior cannabis-related criminal offense who also have a background owning and operating a small business.

The CAURD licenses are a major part of the state’s Seeding Opportunity Initiative, which ensures the first legal adult-use retail dispensaries will be operated by individuals who have been the most impacted by the prohibition on weed.

Initially, OCM said it would issue 150 CAURD licenses, before announcing in March it would issue double that amount – 300 licenses.

Staten Island will now get six licenses instead of three.

Although no legal adult-use recreational dispensaries have opened on Staten Island yet, there is one medical dispensary.

There are 40 medical weed dispensaries across New York.

LEGAL ADULT-USE RECREATIONAL WEED DISPENSARIES

Below is a list of the legal adult-use recreational dispensaries and medical cannabis dispensaries that have opened in the five boroughs so far:

Housing Works Cannabis Co., owned by Housing Works, was the first legal adult-use recreational dispensary to open its doors in New York City on Dec. 29, 2022, at 750 Broadway in Manhattan.

Smacked LLC, owned by Roland Conner, the second legal adult-use weed dispensary, opened on Jan. 24, 2023, at 144 Bleecker St. in Manhattan.

Just Breathe, the state’s third legal weed dispensary and the first to open in upstate New York, opened on Feb. 10, 2023, at 75 Court St. in Binghamton, New York.

William Jane, the second legal weed dispensary, opened on March 16, 2023, at 119-121 East State St. in Ithaca, New York.
